Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning

Our congratulations go to the following nominees from UWS who were selected to receive Australian Learning and Teaching Council (formerly Carrick Institute) Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning, 2008.

The successful nominees from the University of Western Sydney are:
  • Dr Claire Aitchison - Student Learning Unit - For a university-wide program on successful thesis writing through the pedagogy of research writing groups.
  • Dr Susan Armstrong - School of Law - For sustained educational leadership in building capacity and enhancing the university experience of law students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Mr John Nicholls, Ms Lyn Stewart, Mrs Roslyn Gillies, Ms Lyn Armstrong and Ms Mary Goldsmith - Student Learning Unit and School of Nursing and Midwifery - For Bridging the Gap: evidence-based teaching and learning strategies to develop the numeracy skills in undergraduate nursing students required for demonstrating drug calculation competency.
  • Professor Rod O’Donnell - School of Economics and Finance - For inspiring, motivating and supporting student learning through leadership in peer-assisted learning, and through innovative course design fostering creativity and skill formation.
  • Associate Professor Pauline Ross - Dean’s Unit, College of Health and Science - For re-imagining biology learning for conceptual understanding through inquiry and creativity; connecting the cognitive with the affective and inspiring students to learn.
  • Associate Professor Roy Tasker - School of Natural Sciences - For using interactive multimedia resources to develop a deep understanding of chemistry by progressively refining a student’s mental model of the molecular world.
  • Dr Judith Thistleton-Martin - School of Education- For crossing the boundaries between university and school contexts through developing and sustaining innovative professional experience programs in teacher education.
