Research Lectureships

The UWS Research Lectureships are an important part of the process of academic renewal within the University of Western Sydney. In 2010, UWS wishes to appoint twelve outstanding early career researchers who have completed a research doctorate within the last five years. 

UWS Research Lectureships will enable early career researchers to concentrate on the development of their research potential. While teaching one-third of a normal teaching load during the three year contract Research Lecturers will be provided with research support and support to develop teaching skills and materials.

A mentoring program will be developed to support the holders of UWS Research Lectureships. The mentoring program will be managed by the Pro Vice-Chancellor Research in co-operation with the Schools, Research Centres and Research Groups.

The UWS Research Lectureships have provision for conversion to on-going normal teaching and research position at the end of three years contract period, subject to evidence of strong research and teaching performance.

University of Western Sydney

The University has three Colleges: College of Arts; College of Business; and College of Health and Science in which reside 16 schools, including a School of Medicine. In addition, there are nine University Research Centres engage in interdisciplinary research across the University.

The University also has the following Research Groups:

The Colleges, Schools and Research Centres are based across six campuses in the greater western Sydney area. Successful candidates will be appointed to an appropriate School with a cross appointment where appropriate to University Research Centres or Groups.

  8. Land use and the Urban Environment 
  9. Business and Policy Innovation
  10. Small business management
  11. Corporate Social Responsibility, Environmental Sustainability, Environmental Law and Governance
  12. Health Management

International Appointments

Successful international applicants who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia will be supported by UWS in obtaining a visa for entry to Australia on an educational basis for a three year period. The appointment however would be subject to a successful visa application. If the position is converted to an ongoing position the University will sponsor a new visa application and the on-going appointment will be subject to the visa application being successful.

Successful applicants who reside outside of the Sydney metropolitan area will be supported with appropriate removal and relocation costs.

Assessment Criteria

Demonstrated record of achievement and a high quality research output is the primary criterion. A position description for the Research Lectureship is available on the UWS Jobs List.

Applications

Applications should be made online on the UWS Jobs List.

Nominated referees must be able to comment on the applicant’s research quality and scholarly achievements as evidenced by research output to date. A referee will also be asked to discuss the applicants’ potential as a future researcher and teacher at a standard of excellence.
