College of Health and Science

The College of Health and Science aims to bring knowledge to life through its health, science and technology research, and its educational and community programs. We believe in:

  • The primacy of the student experience
  • A vibrant and inclusive intellectual community
  • Opportunity and excellence in our research and educational programs
  • Strong local and international connections
  • Valuing, rewarding, challenging and developing our staff
  • Environmental and social responsibility.

The College of Health and Science has six Schools: Biomedical and Health Sciences, Computing and Mathematics, Engineering, Medicine, Nursing and Midwifery, and Natural Sciences. The College hosts four of the University Research Centres: Centre for Plants and the Environment, Complementary Medicine, Civionics and the Urban Research Centre. Other research groups and nodes include Family and Community Health, Exploring Pregnancy Outcomes, Health Systems and Outcomes, Molecular Medicine and Sensory Neuroscience, Solar Energy Technology, Nanotechnology, Water Research, and Theoretical Investigations into Mathematics and Statistics.

Of particular note is the recently awarded $40 million national infrastructure facility for Climate Change and Energy Research which will provide facilities for examining the impact of climate change from the cell to ecosystem level, including changes associated with elevated carbon dioxide levels on soil microbial ecology/nutrient cycling and plant physiology, and the capacity of plants to adapt. The funding will also provide an updated Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometer (SIMS) facility and a Solar Testing Station that will permit calibration of solar hydrogen capacity.
