About Us

The University of Western Sydney (UWS) and Lithgow City Council have been cooperating for several years to secure a viable and sustainable university presence in Lithgow.

This has been an integral component in the Council’s Community Strategic Plan and is consistent with the university’s commitment to access and equity in higher education.

Outreach model

As the population of the Lithgow Local Government Area (LGA) is insufficient to sustain a fully-fledged university campus with teaching and research across a number of disciplines, an outreach campus model has been developed. The concept of the outreach model is that UWS will offer a range of courses, programs and potential research collaborations that are in direct response to the employment needs of the Lithgow LGA. This will ensure that graduates will have the skills to secure local and regional employment. It is also envisaged that UWS and the Council will cooperate to stage a range of cultural activities utilising the resources of both UWS and the local community.

A key feature of the outreach model is also engagement with local suppliers for the provision of the various requisite services for students, such as textbooks, food and beverage, stationery and entertainment, which should provide a significant boost to retail and related activity on Main Street.

The Lithgow Outreach campus will be managed by UWSCollege, a wholly-owned entity of the University of Western Sydney, with an established reputation for providing quality pathways to tertiary study and positive academic outcomes.

Campus development

The development of the campus is possible through the federal government’s Structural Adjustment Fund and UWSCollege has welcomed Lithgow Council’s decision to provide the Charles Hoskins Building on Mort Street as an educational facility and a valuable community asset after substantial refurbishment and redevelopment.

UWSCollege Pty Ltd (ABN 44003474468, CRICOS Code 02851G) is a wholly-owned entity of the University of Western Sydney (CRICOS Code 00917K). UWSCollege Academic Pathway programs are delivered by UWSCollege under arrangement with the University of Western Sydney.
