UWSCollege makes dreams come true
UWSCollege joined the local community on Sunday 25 November to participate in the ‘Celebrate Lithgow Street Festival’.
The
University of Western Sydney and Lithgow City Council have been
cooperating for several years to secure a viable and sustainable
university presence in Lithgow. This has been an integral part of
Council’s Community Strategic Plan and Economic Development Strategy and
is consistent with the University’s ongoing commitment to access and
equity in higher education.
In order to promote the UWSCollege
Lithgow campus, which is scheduled to open late 2013, festival goers
who registered their interest at the street festival with UWSCollege went into the draw to win an Apple iPad Generation 4 and a Belkin Folio with Stand iPad case.
At
3.15pm, the winner was drawn by Mayor Maree Statham. The winner, Jade
Thompson, has just finished her Higher School Certificate.
A condition of entry required entrants to list the area of study they were interested in and their dream occupation.
Jade is interested in studying a Bachelor of Nursing and says her dream occupation is to ultimately become a surgeon.
Initial
offerings at the Lithgow campus will include University Foundation
Studies for students who require preparation for formal academic study
in Engineering and Arts and Higher Education Diploma Programs with
vocational outcomes.
Associate Degrees in key areas such as
Engineering to enable local tradesmen to upgrade their qualifications
and gain professional recognition with Engineers Australia will also be
offered as well as a suite of short courses and public lectures and
workshops in business and the creative arts and related areas.
It
is also envisaged that UWS and Council will co-operate in a range of
cultural activities utilising the resources of both University and the
local community whilst showcasing the region’s notable heritage and
nature landscape.
UWSCollege is a wholly owned entity of
the University of Western Sydney, and offers academic pathways to the
University, continuing education and professional development programs
for Australian and International students.
UWSCollege is responsible for the management of the UWS Outreach Campus opening in Lithgow in 2013.
