Welcome

Welcome to the School of Management, part of the College of Business at the University of Western Sydney.

Our school is organised academically into three foundation discipline groups – Business Systems, Employment Relations and Organisation Studies. Through these groups, we teach courses in:

• Global Operations and Supply Chain Management
• Hospitality Management
• Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations
• Human Resource Development and Organisation Development
• Management
• Sport  Management

We also teach cross-discipline courses in business and commerce and business administration.

The school places a strong emphasis on teaching quality and innovation. Course management meetings of staff regularly revise subjects based on student feedback, and a number of our staff have won teaching excellence awards from the College of Law and Business (the predecessor to the College of Business) and from the Vice-Chancellor.

Areas of Expertise

The school is actively engaged in research in the Greater Western Sydney region and internationally. We have a strong track record in partnership research in the Western Sydney region, including extensive research undertaken for local government bodies in Parramatta, Penrith and Fairfield and research into small manufacturing businesses in the Macarthur region.

We have strong international links with universities such as:

• Aalborg (Denmark)
• Twente (Holland)
• Greenwich (UK)
• Hong Kong Baptist (Hong Kong)
• Hawaii (US).

Members of the School also play an active role in the management of key academic associations including:

• the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM)
• the Pacific Employment Relations Association (PERA)
• the International Employment Relations Association (IERA).

History

2006 marked the 30th anniversary of the commencement of teaching in the field of management at the University of Western Sydney. The school’s origins can be traced back to 1976 when teaching commenced in the Personnel Management and Industrial Relations major in the Associate Diploma in Business at the then Westmead Campus. Degree programs were then progressively added at Westmead and subsequently at Penrith, Campbelltown and Blacktown campuses.
