Biography
C. Soon Lee
MD BS (Melb), FRCPA, FRCPath (UK), MIAC, MRACMA.
Professor Lee is Professor and Chair of Pathology at University of Western Sydney. He is currently based at Liverpool Hospital and is a senior pathologist at that hospital and at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
He has research interests in cancer pathology particularly in relation to translational work in gastrointestinal, breast, pancreatic-biliary, head and neck and prostate cancers. His work on EGFR in head and neck cancers in the early 1990's resulted in the first and only one of two publications in this area in Australia that has recently resulted in the use of immunohistochemical detection of EGFR in patients with these cancers.
His involvement in multicentre international study on phyllodes tumour of the breast has produced significant insights into the molecular basis of this unusual condition. He and his overseas collaborators from Hong Kong, Singapore and Brazil currently have the largest archival series of these tumours in the world.
Professor Lee is currently Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Pathology (SCI impact factor of 1.77 in 2007) and is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Pathology. He is also Associate Editor of the journal, Internet Journal of Oncology. He has published over 120 manuscripts in high impact factor international journals in cancer research. His research programmes are currently funded by NHMRC, Cancer Institute NSW, Cancer Australia and Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists.
