College plans provide for the following:
Interpreting and Translation Research Group
Conclude agreement with Nanjing University Centre (within umbrella of existing UWS-Nanjing Memorandum of Understanding).
Justice Research Group
Explore this newly established group's potential for interdisciplinary and inter-College collaboration.
Build capacity in existing centres, and especially in the newest centres, the Centre for Citizenship and Public Policy and the National Centre of Excellence for Islamic Studies - UWS Centre for the Study of Contemporary Muslim Societies (the latter supported in part by external funding of $250K in 2009 and a further $450K in 2010 and 2011).
Subject to Executive consideration, establish a Centre for Digital Research and Scholarship.
The College, CInIS, SERG, Schools and/or individual researchers are externally acknowledged for their engaged research.
Identify research mentors to grow research skills amongst all academics.
By end of 2010 50% of academic staff are research qualified.
Establish a grant / tender writing scheme with UWS Innovation and Consulting.
Establish a College-based internal grant application scheme through Schools' total contribution of $40,000 per annum to ADR unit.
Build depth (centres and groups) as well as breadth through better integration of research centres and groups with Schools under the umbrella of research themes as this will also strengthen links between research and teaching.
Improve communication of research strengths through the web, brochures, media and talks - this will also help attract PhD students.
Increase input into research directions and support from amongst the Professors and Associate Professors and establishment of a Dean's Research Advisory Group.
Communicate and celebrate research successes - and submit more nominations for prizes and awards.
College investment in research aligned with research themes, aimed at encouraging a broadly based scholarly and research culture. This will assist the link between research and teaching.
New staff appointments and Strategic Lectureship initiative aligned with research themes and directions - will improve research and teaching nexus and attract PhD students.
Research Futures Conference to be aligned with themes, with a view to creating a culture of support for HDR and Research Students.
COHS Research Grant Mentoring Club - this will lead to more funding.
Research infrastructure support, backup, renewal and extension with aim to also generate income - work closely with facilities - this will be relevant to all aspects of 'Developing targeted world class research'.
Research risk assessment - improved data management [Office of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research)].
Project management, financial management and identification / protection / exploitation training for researchers - relevant to PhD students as well.
