Students entering roomUWS Target

Low SES

University target by 2015: To increase the participation rate of low SES students to 24.0%. This would place UWS in the top quarter of the sector.

Low SES

Note:  Having both a numerical and participation rate target is not meaningful, you could meet your participation rate but not the numerical target and vice versa, therefore,  only a participation rate has now been set. This target has been increased from 23.5% in 2015 to 24% because we were already in excess of the previous target.

Low SES is based on the allocation of postcodes as per the 2006 Census Index of Education and Occupation.

Indigenous Participation

University target by 2015: To increase participation to at least 725 indigenous students by 2015, a growth rate of 15% p.a

 Indigenous participation

Note:  The target has been increased from 560 in 2015 to 725.  This because the previous target for 2012 has already been reached, therefore, the 2015 target has been stretched further and is based on a 15% increase p.a after 2012.

The University has developed UWS and School KPI targets (PDF 184Kb) (opens in a new window) for the period of 2010 to 2015 in support of the UWS widening participation target.

There are a number of key factors that will influence achievement of the UWS widening participation target. These factors are important individually and in combination, and are:

  • Expansion of monitoring programs aimed at raising aspirations among younger children and Indigenous students with emphasis on language and numeracy skills
  • Continued prominence of Co-operative placement programs and service learning / student out-placement programs
  • Further development of the TICE on-line system (opens in a new window), our community partner data collection tool, to capture outcome data and evidence of impact and satisfaction with the partnership
