5.2 Student RetentionUWS Target

 

University target by 2015: To increase commencing bachelor level retention to 83.5% so as to be in the top half of the sector.

Note:  The target has been revised from the top one third to the top half because the top one third is not presently realistic, this has not been helped by a drop in retention over the last two years.  As there is little that can be done to impact on retention for 2011-12 only a  modest increase has been set for next year, followed by a 1% increase in the retention rate over the following three years which will result in UWS being in the top half of the sector based on the latest sector data.


The University has developed UWS and School KPI targets  (PDF, 165 Kb) (opens in a new window) for the period of 2010 to 2015 in support of the UWS student retention target.


The University has just completed a self-assessment for this nominated theme at part of the AUQA Cycle 2 audit process.

There are a number of key factors that will influence achievement of the UWS retention target that are applicable to both domestic and international students. These factors are important individually and in combination, and are:
