The outdoor artworks currently on display on the picturesque grounds of the University of Western Sydney’s Campbelltown campus have captured the imagination and creativity of the wider community.

Since the official opening of the UWS Sculpture Awards and Exhibition on Friday 4th May, a steady stream of visitors has flocked to the campus, to explore its rolling hills and lakeside vistas.

UWS Curator, Ms Monica McMahon, says the Exhibition has received an overwhelmingly positive response from the community, and has inspired many people to show-off their own artistic qualities.

“Since the opening weekend, we have received many photographs from members of the community, who were keen to share their own special moments and favourite spaces within the Exhibition,” says Ms McMahon.

“The photos range from family pictures, of children interacting with the artworks as they would a playground; to more mature guests, relaxing under the shade that the sculptures create.

“More professional photographers have also used the site as inspiration – through their lens we are able to see their unique, and at times peculiar, perspectives of the sculptures and the landscape.”

Ms McMahon says it has been pleasing to receive so much visual evidence of the way that outdoor art encourages unique interpretations and experiences from each viewer.

“One of the University’s primary goals this year was to create an exhibition space that people could interact with and enjoy – if these photos are anything to go by, we have certainly succeeded in this aim.”

A gallery of the photographs, submitted by UWS staff and members of the general community, has been created on the University’s ‘Virtual Tours’ site.
