Exhibition to celebrate International Day of People with Disability opens
An exhibition to celebrate International Day of People with Disability opened at the Margot Hardy Gallery on the Bankstown campus of the University of Western Sydney on Sunday 2 November.
The exhibition ‘Art and Music’ displays artwork by children involved in the Chinese Parents Association – Children with Disabilities Inc (CPAKidz) and was opened with a celebratory event for the local community.
“The opening was a great success and a lot of fun for all those who attended,” says Nick Baldas, Exhibition Coordinator.
“All of the artworks on display were created by the CPAKIdz and they are also wonderful musicians, performing on the day with other members of our community that have a disability”.
CPAKidz is a charitable support group formed in 1988 by members of the Greater Sydney Chinese community who have a child with a disability. The exhibition serves as an opportunity for the children to share their art and music with the rest of the community.
“The exhibition and the exhibition opening provided children with a disability the opportunity to express their artistic abilities in a safe and creative environment which we hope will also help to break down some of the isolation potentially felt by individuals with a disability and their families,” says Mr Baldas.
The exhibition will be open until 20 December 2013, Monday – Friday 9.00am – 5.00pm with all members of the community invited to come and view the artworks.
