UWS opens new childcare centre for Parramatta campus
The University of Western Sydney community gathered to celebrate the official opening of its new childcare centre for the Parramatta campus today.
UWS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Barney Glover, and Ms Susan Hudson, Chair of UWS Early Learning Limited, were joined by Federal Member for Parramatta, Ms Julie Owens MP, to officially open UWS Early Learning Parramatta.
The $3 million facility, which had its first enrolments in July this year, has 13 staff and caters for 57 children aged between 6 weeks and 6 years, providing them with the best learning environment possible.
The ultra-modern and purpose-built childcare centre comprises teaching spaces, internal play areas, staff and planning rooms, office space and reception areas, and a large outdoor area for learning and exploration.
"I'm so pleased that UWS is able to provide this service on their busy campus - especially with the shortage of local child care places," says Julie Owens.
"Early childhood education is so important for a child's development and I'm so glad the UWS has a service that will cater to busy students and staff."
Professor Glover said the new centre provides much-needed childcare for UWS staff, students and the surrounding community.
"UWS Early Learning Parramatta is a wonderful asset for the Parramatta campus," says Professor Glover.
"The University understands the importance of having a high-quality childcare and education service that we can entrust our children to when we have to work or study – or both."
"We congratulate all those involved in the design, development and construction of this new facility, which is providing a stimulating and inclusive learning environment for children and is a model of best practice."
