Young artists hone their digital skills at UWS Masterclass

Students on the green screen

Some of the most talented and creative young minds from Greater Western Sydney have been given the opportunity to hone their media production skills as a special University of Western Sydney workshop.

Schools from across the region nominated their most artistically gifted year 10 students to visit the state of the art production facilities at UWS Penrith to gain an insight into how to turn their ideas for film and television into a reality.

Lecturer in Media Arts Production, Maryella Hatfield from the UWS School of Humanities and Communication Arts, says the Master Class was a great opportunity for the students to explore their creativity.

"The participants were all chosen for their artistic ability, and this workshop gave them a great chance to move beyond their own individual art backgrounds and practices to explore the possibilities in digital technology," she says.

"By participating in live studio recordings filmed on green screens, and taking part in location shooting and sound recording, the students were given an entrée into what it takes to create a professional video."

"In addition, working with UWS mentors and having the opportunity to use the University's facilities gave them a glimpse of life at the University of Western Sydney."

The UWS Digital Master Class is supported by the University's School of Humanities and Communication Arts in partnership with the NSW Department of Education and Communities and ARTEXPRESS.
