CPR Demonstration

UWS staff Toni Azzopardi and Evan Alexandrou introduce us to the Nursing CPU Sim Room where 3rd year nursing students learn to save lives doing CPR in a realistic hospital setting.

Clinical Practice Units

UWS SONM Nursing Students in CPU
UWS provides students with state of the art clinical practice facilities, called Clinical Practice Units (CPU's). These are located at the Hawkesbury (3 CPU's), Parramatta (4 CPU's) and Campbelltown Campus (4 CPU's). The CPU's have beds and mannequins and are designed to simulate a contemporary hospital ward setting. All Clinical Practice Unit (CPU) complexes on each campus have rooms for teaching and practice, a simulation room and a control room. At Parramatta campus there is also a midwifery room for midwifery students.
The teaching rooms in the CPU's are equipped with white boards, screens, projectors and computer access and smart boards. The CPU complex at Hawkesbury is currently undergoing refurbishment.

Simulation FacilitiesUWS Nursing CPU Mannequin

  • Low fidelity to high fidelity mannequins - on all campuses
  • Compressed air to each bed so that oxygen (simulated) air and suction can be provided for practice
  • Range of equipment to support nursing skills such as IV pumps and lines. Oxygen equipment, Suctioning equipment, ECG machines, Cardiac monitors, Dressing packs, Intravenous medication (simulated) and equipment, Injection equipment (needles and syringes), Dressing equipment and trolleys, Oral medication (simulated), Nasogastric tubes, Urinary catheters, BP machines, pulse oximeters and weigh scales
  • Computer on wheels for use in the CPU's and multiple internet points on Parramatta and Campbelltown campuses.
  • Multiple internet points on the Parramatta and Campbelltown campuses

The SIM Room

The CPU complex on each campus has a simulation room housing a Laerdal Simman, Simman mannequin, bed and emergency trolley with a defibrillator, resuscitation equipment and simulated drugs. The cameras in the SIM room send data to any of the CPU's on the same campus. This allows students to view activities in the Sim room. Debriefing of students can then occur in the CPU's. This allows students to view activities in the SIM room.

Midwifery Facilities
