Biography
Dr Stephen McNally is a lecturer within the School of Nursing and Midwifery, UWS. Stephen has been employed by UWS for 20 years as an academic teaching critical care and general medical-surgical nursing. He is currently Head of Program, Bachelor of Nursing (Advanced) and is also the coordinator for units within this program. Stephen has a personal commitment to maintain clinical currency in emergency nursing.

Mentor Study:
Participated as a mentor in a research study (2007) “Surviving and thriving in the face of workplace adversity”. The study evaluated a program aimed at increasing personal resilience in nurses and midwives. As a senior nurse academic Stephen provided mentoring support to a junior midwife. Expert Panel: Professor Debra Jackson, Dr Lauretta Luck & Professor Lesley Wilkes University of Western Sydney (2008). He was identified as an expert in the area of violence in emergency departments. Stephen participated in the development of a questionnaire to assess an individual's potential for violence in hospital emergency and general ward areas. The questionnaire was used by nurses to rate an individual's potential to be violent, focusing on a patients family and friends.
