Midwifery
Midwifery at UWS
Bachelor of Midwifery
The UWS Bachelor of Midwifery will develop caring and reflective midwives who can support childbearing women in Sydney, and beyond. Graduates will work in partnership with women (and their families) and collaborate with other members of the health care team in order to provide 'women centred' care. They will practice according to the International Definition of the Midwife and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council National Competency Standards for the Midwife. Students will learn about the principles of primary health care, cultural safety and how to translate theory and research into practice. The acquisition of midwifery knowledge and skills will occur initially in campus-based simulated clinical practice settings on the beautiful historic Parramatta campus. Consolidation of skills and knowledge will then occur during clinical placements undertaken in a variety of health care settings and models of care.
