48 EcoFilm Challenge – Enter to win!

Are you passionate about the planet? Want to make a film about it? The EcoFilm Fest team is inviting creative filmmakers from around the world to make a short eco-focused film. Films will be judged by an elite panel, including Hollywood producer Andrew Sugerman, with cash prizes up for grabs.

On Friday night, 24 May, participants from all around the world will receive an email or SMS with their randomly allocated elements – including subject, character, props and line of dialogue – that must be included in the film. The short movie must be written, shot, edited, produced and uploaded started by 7pm Sunday 26 May. Yes, that’s just one weekend!

Are you up for the challenge or want to know more? Visit the EcoFilm Fest website (opens in a new window).

Your feedback makes a difference

You will receive an email with links to each of your enrolled units. These links will lead directly to a Student Feedback on Units (SFU) online surveys for those units, where you can provide your feedback. Find out more on the Student Feedback on Units webpage (opens in a new window).

Eastern University Games

Registrations are still open for the 2013 Eastern University Games. Everyone is welcome regardless of skill level and there is a sport to suit everyone — from soccer and basketball to Ultimate Frisbee and lawn bowls. If you want to have the best University experience possible, Uni Games is a must. Hurry – registrations close soon!

For more information visit: Uni Sport (opens in a new window) or email unisport@uws.edu.au.

Get healthy!

Go4Fun® is a free healthy lifestyle program for children aged seven to 13 years old and their families, which aims to help them adopt a long-lasting approach to healthy living.

To find out more about these programs, please visit the Go4Fun @ UWS (opens in a new window) and Get Healthy at UWS (opens in a new window) webpages, where you can also read testimonials.

Student seeks Bankstown students for research

Want to help one of your peers with their Applied Social Research project? Vanessa Puntillo is looking for students to help her with a research project. If you’re a student on the Bankstown campus and have used the University’s counselling services at a time when you thought about leaving university and you’d like to take part in a 30-minute interview, contact Vanessa by email on 17195140@student.uws.edu.au. Information provided to Vanessa will remain confidential and anonymous. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Vanessa’s tutor, Felicity Wray (f.wray@uws.edu.au), or lecturer, Oishee (oishee.alam@gmail.com).

Sydney Writers’ Festival

As part of the Sydney Writers’ Festival, Felicity Castagna, a doctoral candidate with the Writing and Research Centre on the Bankstown campus, is facilitating a free seminar at Parramatta on Sunday 19 May that gives practical advice on publishing, funding and getting your work some attention. If you’re interested in attending, visit the Sydney Writers' Festival listing (opens in a new window) for information on how to book.

Also part of the Sydney Writer’s Festival, Intercultural Dialogues: Love Unbound is a free UWS-sponsored production of cross-cultural musical performances that will be held at Blacktown Arts Centre on Friday 24 May at 7pm. Bookings are essential. For more information about this event, visit the Sydney Writer’s Festival webpage (opens in a new window).
