As you know, the UWS Environmental Tobacco Smoke Policy came into effect this year, with the aim of reducing the UWS community’s exposure to the risks of passive smoking. With the introduction of this policy, smoking is now prohibited on UWS campuses with the exception of a number of clearly marked designated smoking areas. Find out where they are on your campus (opens in a new window).
If you see someone smoking outside a designated smoking area, please remind them of the policy and politely ask them to move to a designated smoking area.
With World No Tobacco Day coming up on May 31, now is as good a time as any to quit smoking. Students who want to reduce or quit smoking can visit the Quit Now website (opens in a new window) or access free confidential assistance via the UWS Counselling Service or Student Welfare Service. To make an appointment with a counsellor/welfare officer, call 9852 5199 or email counselling@uws.edu.au. Please indicate you would like to use the smoking cessation services when you contact UWS to make an appointment.
New food outlets have opened across the campuses, including a coffee kiosk on Parramatta campus and a juice bar on the Kingswood campus in Building K. To find out what’s new in food near you, visit the Food page (opens in a new window) of the uwsconnect website.
Students on campus between 8:30am and 10am may like to take advantage of a free breakfast at one of the following locations: Café South on Werrington South campus, Building 1 at Bankstown campus, Building 2 at Campbelltown campus, The Hub at Parramatta campus, and Café L2 at Hawkesbury campus.
Do you like to keep up to date with what’s happening around the world? UWS Library now provides access to more than 2,300 newspapers through the Press Reader application for Apple products (opens in a new window) and Android (opens in a new window). When you’re on campus and connected to the AirUWS network, you can use the Press Reader app to download full newspapers from around the world. You can then read them later when it’s convenient for you.
Please note that the download function in the application will only allow free access while on campus and connected to AirUWS – when outside of AirUWS, downloads are provided on a subscription basis. To find out more about Press Reader, contact the Library (opens in a new window).
