60 seconds with student: Hayley Bellamy

UWS student Hayley BellamyAn ambassador for Don’t DIS My Ability and a recent MyVoice scholarship recipient, Hayley Bellamy is currently studying the Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology at UWS. She was recently offered a job at Price Waterhouse Cooper with the company’s IT team.

What has been your best experience at UWS so far?
I have changed so much since starting my uni studies at UWS immediately after leaving school in 2007. University offers so many experiences and opportunities that it’s difficult to pinpoint the most beneficial one without considering the experiences of life outside of school. I would have to say my most rewarding experience at university has been how all my choices have played an important role in my development to an exciting career path. I have also enjoyed the friendships and socialising sides of uni life with other students from backgrounds so different from my own life, as I grew up in the country.

What will we find you doing outside of your studies?
I have a very busy life. I enjoy shopping, going on outings or seeing a movie. I am a volunteer Telephone Support Worker at Lifeline and recently started volunteering at Anglicare, assisting in administration one day each week. I have completed my Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award through the Muscular Dystrophy Association of NSW and was one of 14 ambassadors for Don’t DIS My Ability 2012, attending functions and presenting speeches to promote the campaign. It was a most rewarding experience.

How would your friends describe you?
I actually had to ask my friend this question and she said I was strong-willed, cheerful, determined and enthusiastic.

I am passionate about...
…art and design. I love my camera and enjoy working on art projects or learning to use computer programs. These will always be my favourite hobbies.

When I graduate, I hope to…
I graduated in a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology before beginning the Bachelor of Design and Communication at UWS. The Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology will coincide with my work at Price Waterhouse Cooper.  I feel honoured to be given this wonderful opportunity and by the time I graduate I hopefully will have created a rewarding career in this company with the Information Technology team. My long-term goals are to travel, see new places and meet people from different places and lifestyles.
