Office of Higher Education Policy and Projects

About us

The Office of Higher Education Policy and Projects provides high level advice and support, across the University but particularly to the UWS Executive,  Deans and senior management regarding:
  • Higher education policy developments – assessing implications of emerging policy directions for UWS and our region;  working to positively influence policy outcomes; and providing a newsletter, resources, data and commentary to help with information and advocacy;
  • Government relations – facilitating positive relations with over 50 politicians and key stakeholders across Greater Western Sydney at local, state and Commonwealth level to improve outcomes for UWS and our region;
  • Government agreements and reporting – negotiating agreements with government (such as the Compact and University Funding Agreement) and providing quality reports required by government about UWS performance and plans and about government-funded projects;
  • Major funding applications – identifying major funding opportunities (usually Commonwealth government);  coordinating quality applications; ensuring funded projects are implemented effectively and progress reports provided to government;
  • Strategic projects – recent examples include:
    • transitioning five on campus childcare centres run independently by non-profit organisations to six centres under  a university controlled non-profit company, with the Parramatta campus centre to open in 2014;
    • a project aimed at increasing student numbers in agriculture related courses;
    • key role in UWS Parramatta City Campus Project Partnership with ABI.
