Intended for staff involved in operating, reviewing, proposing and/or implementing process changes. '8 Steps to Tango' methodology is designed for people who have previous knowledge or understanding of process mapping and are interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the skills required to review and change processes.
Description
This one day program has been developed following the success of the ‘Hows and Whys of Process Mapping’ session. It is an advanced session for practitioners keen to enhance their understanding of process review programs.
‘8 Steps to Tango’ focuses on eight simple, sequential and unique steps required to undertake process reviews. The program will cover a mix of theoretical knowledge, techniques, methodologies and practical exercises.
Objectives
NB Four sets of exercises are delivered with this program. Participants will be required to work in groups and will have the option to work with a given example or to work with a process of their knowledge and/or interest. Those opting for the latter are recommended to bring suitable process information.
This program will enable participants to:
- Undertake a process review using the ‘8 Steps to Tango’ methodology
- Consider key stakeholders and relationships with other processes
- Map current processes using high level diagrams, detailed process maps and documentation
- Undertake initial assessment, identifying key performance indicators and other process measures
- Undertake an in-depth analysis identifying process dysfunctions and symptoms
- Apply business process design principles and re-engineer/improve processes
- Evaluate alternatives for change implementation and provide tools for managing change
- Introduce process controls and install a cycle of continuous improvement

About the facilitator
Grisel Carreira is a senior business analyst with over a decade of experience in the area of process mapping. She has worked at various Universities, Institutes and government educational agencies across Australia and New Zealand and is currently engaged by UTS.
Her qualifications include Bachelor of Commerce Degree and Postgraduate Diplomas in both Marketing, and Strategic Management and Leadership.
In 2009 Grisel presented her introductory program called ‘The How’s and Whys of Process Mapping’ with great success at UWS. Feedback from 2009/11 participants was positive, expressing interest in learning more about process mapping.
