Description
Mental health problems are prevalent in our community with 1 in 5 people suffering from a mental illness (depression, anxiety or substance abuse). These mental illnesses have a significant impact upon all facets of our lives, our personal relationships, our health and work performance.
This course will enable you to provide assistance to others such as fellow colleagues, students and family members and will assist you in managing your own mental health. The course aims to develop your understanding of the early stages of mental health problems as well as give you the steps and skills necessary to provide assistance. This course will also cover how to deal with a number of mental health crisis situations.
Learning Objectives
This course will enable participants to:
- Gain the knowledge to recognise the signs and symptoms of a developing mental health problem
- Develop an understanding of the 5 step Mental Health First Aid Action Plan
- Learn the skills necessary to implement the Action Plan
- Learn effective crisis management strategies
