Description
The Work Health and Safety (WHS) Course for Managers and Supervisors provides managers and supervisors with the skills and knowledge needed to manage health and safety within the University of Western Sydney. This is essential learning required under State Work, Health and Safety legislation for University staff who have been allocated Risk Management duties.
As WHS obligations become more complex and onerous on managers and supervisors, this course assists you to fulfill those duties set down by the University and those obligations set down by the legislation. Up to date examples, role plays and scenarios are used to contextualise the information to University of Western Sydney. Changes to Work Health and Safety laws are discussed in detail including the new definition for a Person Conducting a Business and an Officer of an Organisation. Comprehensive course notes included.

Learning Objectives
Managers and supervisors will learn how to:
- Comply with UWS duty of care
- Comply with legislative requirement in regard to proactively minimising risks to health and safety by manager/supervisor
- List the requirements for consultation and methods for ensuring consultation has occurred
- Document and maintain a Risk Management system within your unit. This includes a basic overview of risk management but also a more complex appraisal of methods for evaluation and review of reporting. Discussion of methods of risk control will allow the manager to use criteria for determining the best approach to minimising risk within their area
- Use the UWS Risk assessment tool and the hazard / incident / injury form
- List incident investigation methods
This course is part of the Leadership and Management Development program.
