Career Development Opportunities

A range of career development opportunities, services and benefits are provided to assist UWS staff to build upon their capacity, skills and professionalism, contributing to UWS strategic priorities and core and support activities.

  • Churchill Fellowships (opens in a new window)
    Each year the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust offers a number of Fellowships to support Australians whose expertise has progressed to the point where an overseas research project would be of value in improving their contribution to their field and the Australian community. 

     
  • Education Support Allowance
    Employees enrolled in an approved formal award course are entitled to receive an Education Support Allowance to assist with course fees, purchase of text books, course materials and equipment essential to completion of a course or subject. 

     
  • Internal Job Exchange
    The Internal Job Exchange program is an initiative of the University’s Our People 2015 staffing strategy, and enables suitably qualified and skilled Professional staff of the same HEW level to exchange positions for an agreed period of time. 

     
  • Academic Mentoring Program
    The UWS Mentoring Program is an important aspect of Academic career and professional development and contributes to building a culture of collaborative learning and development. 

     
  • UWS Staff Postgraduate Study Scholarships
    Available annually to both academic and professional staff, the UWS Staff Postgraduate Study Scholarships offer reduced fees for staff undertaking postgraduate UWS courses via coursework. 

     
  • Vice-Chancellor's Professional Development Scholarships
    Academic and Professional staff with a minimum of 12 months continuous service are eligible to apply for a scholarship to attend conferences, seminars, workshops and short courses to further their professional or career development. 

     
  • Vice-Chancellor's Professional Development Scholarships for Indigenous Australians
    Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff with a minimum of 12 months continuous service are eligible to apply for a scholarship to attend conferences, seminars, workshops and short courses to further their career or professional development.

  • Continuing Professional Development Guidelines
    Continuing Professional Development (CPD) facilitates the recognition of employees as a professional group. A commitment to CPD by both managers and employees enables joint responsibility for demonstrating high professional standards; reviewing current knowledge and skills; building professional capabilities; continuous quality improvement in work practices; and optimising career opportunities for employees.

  • Professional Development Policy
    The purpose of the Professional Development Policy is to encourage and support employees to actively pursue their professional and career development as an integral element of their employment with the University. The University acknowledges that continuing professional development contributes to personal job satisfaction, workplace productivity, reward and recognition.
