AHOS Leadership Forums

Dates 9 April, 13 August and 22 October 2010
Invitation and agenda is sent out prior to each forum.

Description
For Associate Heads of School, the forums focus on aspects of their leadership and management roles within schools.

Certificate IV in Business (Frontline Management)

Dates for Non Supervisors 21 April, 18 May, 29 June, 27 July, 31 August, 21 September, 19 October and 23 November 2010 (Eight one-day workshops)
Dates For Supervisors 28 July, 1 September, 22 September, 20 October, 24 November 2010 and 2011 Dates 10 February, 10 March and 14 April 2011 (Eight one-day workshops).

Description
This is a nationally recognised qualification. The program introduces managers, supervisors and team leaders to the principles, values, models and skills of supervising and managing others. There are eight modules in the Certificate IV program involving workplace-based activities and assessment. For more information, please see see Certificate IV in Business (Frontline Management).

Company Directors Course

Dates To be Advised  (five one day workshops)

Facilitator Australian Institute of Company Directors
Intended for Senior Staff.

Description
The Company Directors Course (CDC) is a comprehensive program focusing on the roles, duties and responsibilities of board directors and members. The CDC is offered through the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is highly recommended for all senior staff who currently sit on boards or are involved in University, community or external committees.

The course consists of 10 modules focusing on the key functions of directors or members of a board:

  • the directors’ duties and responsibilities
  • risk — the board’s role
  • strategy — the board’s role
  • financial literacy for directors
  • driving financial performance
  • the board’s legal environment
  • decision making
  • achieving board effectiveness
  • learning into practice.

Participants successfully completing the program and assessment will be eligible for the Diploma in Company Directorship.

Diploma in Business (Frontline Management)

Description
The Diploma consists of three additional modules to the Certificate IV in Business (Frontline Management):

  • BSBFLM507B Manage Quality Customer Service.

Executive Coaching Program

HOPNet Development Forums

Description
The HOPNet Development Forums are an opportunity for Heads of Programs to further their professional development. The Forums follow the morning HOPNet Forum. InVision Leadership Seminars

Description
Guest speakers from government, industry and business lead a dialogue on key aspects of leadership and management. The seminars follow directly after the Senior Staff Forum held in the morning of the same days.

Management Essentials Program (Mandatory)

Intended for all managers, supervisors and team leaders.

Description
The UWS Management Essentials Program covers key areas of statutory or legislative compliance and UWS policies and processes.

The Program is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and capabilities of managers and supervisors. Managers and supervisors at UWS have a range of responsibilities and accountabilities related to compliance with legal or statutory requirements, University policies and procedures, and supervisory responsibilities.

The Program recognises that managers and supervisors have a key role and responsibility in maintaining currency in, and ensuring staff are aware of, and work within the guidelines established by relevant legislation; the University’s strategic goals, values, and Code of Conduct; and policies and procedures as they relate to ensuring a safe and fair environment for students and staff, and good practice in recruitment and selection, managing performance and developing staff.

It is expected that all managers and supervisors participate in the four modules outlined below which equates to 45 hours of professional development. Refresher training should be completed every three years.  Managers with recent training or experience in any of the modules may apply for recognition of prior learning.

Managers and Supervisors
Managers and supervisors new to the University or to their role should complete all four modules during their probationary period or first six months in the role.

Existing managers and supervisors need to complete all four modules within twelve months and then update their currency by attending all refresher training in each of the modules every three years.

UWS Quality Forum

Description
Held annually, the UWS Quality Forum is for Senior Staff of the University including the Senior Executive, Pro Vice-Chancellors, Associate Deans, Heads of Schools, Directors, Associate Heads of Schools, Heads of Program and senior managers and provides a forum for discussion on quality improvements in learning and teaching, the student experience, research, internationalisation and engagement.

Senior Management Conference

Date 28 April 2009

Description
Held annually, the Vice-Chancellor’s Senior Management Conference provides a forum for discussion on the University's strategic direction and priorities.

Senior Staff Forums

Dates: 25 February, 24 June, 2 September or 9 December 2010
Time: 9.00 am to 12.30 pm (including lunch)
An agenda is emailed prior to each forum.

Description
Chaired by the Vice-Chancellor and attended by the Executive, Pro Vice-Chancellors, Associate Deans, Heads of School, Directors Research Centres and Directors Divisional Units. The Forums provide updates on the core activities of the University.
