Intended for Honours Students, Postgraduate Research Students and Research Staff who are either new to the University and therefore unfamiliar with the Research Ethics guidelines and application process or Research Staff and Students who want clarification of the Research Ethics guidelines and application process.

Description

Are you an Honours or Postgraduate student, or a staff member who is, or is intending to conduct research at UWS?
 
This course is designed to provide an understanding of the ethics process at UWS, including an overview the development of research ethics, and a look at the legislative framework surrounding ethical review in Australia.
 
The course will function as a practical guideline for the submission of an ethics application and provide a walk-through of why it is necessary, how to submit the application and reporting requirements post-approval. Hints and tips for filling out the application will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives

This workshop will enable participants to:

  • have a clear understanding of the frameworks governing Research Ethics
  • understand the operating procedures of the Research Ethics committees
  • understand why it is necessary to submit a Research Ethics application
  • understand what to include in a Research Ethics application
  • understand how to submit a Research Ethics application
  • understand the reporting requirements after approval has been received
  • embrace a duty of care that demands a genuine commitment to the key principles governing research merit and integrity, respect for persons, beneficence and justice.
