The University recognises that the demand for parking at the Parramatta south campus exceeds the availability of parking spaces during peak times. However, there are often car parking spaces available on the north site, even during peak times.
To manage the continuing demand for parking at Parramatta campus, students and staff wishing to park on the Parramatta south campus will require a blue, red or disabled permit from 28 February 2011.
Yellow permit parking will still be available on the Parramatta north campus.
Only students and staff who have a blue, red or disabled permit will be able to park on the Parramatta south campus.
Blue permits cost $279, equating to $5.37 per week for the calendar year. Red permits – the only type of permits which guarantee you a parking space – cost $720, equating to $13.85 per week.
Single day parking permits will continue to be available from ticket machines on the south campus for $8 per day.
Students and staff who have a yellow permit (as well as those with a blue, red or disabled permit) will be able to park on the Parramatta north campus.
Yellow permits cost $87 for students (equating to $1.67 per week for the calendar year) and $186 for staff (equating to $3.58 per week for the calendar year). This is the lowest cost for any university car parking in the Sydney region.
The Parramatta north campus is connected to the main campus by a free shuttle bus service which runs approximately every 10-15 minutes between 6.30am and 10.30pm. The campus is also connected by a walking route which takes under ten minutes and is regularly patrolled by Campus Safety and Security staff.
Those who purchase a yellow permit are encouraged to plan their trip to allow time to travel between the northern parking area and the main campus.
In line with the NSW State Government’s Metropolitan Transport Plan, the University’s long-term goal is to increase the use of public transport by staff and students. The University will continue to work with NSW Transport and Infrastructure to enhance and promote public transport for UWS campuses.
There are significant heritage protection issues associated with the Parramatta campus which restrict parking management options for this campus. Certain areas of the campus grounds are heritage-protected and unable to be developed and used for parking.
In 2010, the University trialled measures to more intensively manage parking at the Parramatta campus, including:
In 2011, 360 additional car parking bays were established on the north campus, bringing the total number of spaces on this site to in excess of 530 spaces.
Students and staff are strongly encouraged to consider public transport as an option – particularly those who live within a 5–10km radius of the campus.
The campus is well serviced by frequent buses from Parramatta CBD, West Ryde and Burwood to the campus. Parramatta station is a short bus ride away. Rydalmere train station is approximately a 10 minute walk to the campus.
To find out about your public transport options, see the Parramatta Transport Access Guide.
Students and staff are encouraged to consider public transport options before purchasing a parking permit.
2012 annual and half year parking permits will be available for purchase from 1 December 2011. To purchase a UWS parking permit or to find out more about parking at UWS, please visit the Parking website.
