The UWS Parking and Traffic Policy is enforced in order to ensure parking does not risk staff or student safety, traffic flow around the campus or environmental damage. Parking fines are issued to vehicles found to be in breach of the UWS Parking and Traffic Policy.
Parking fines apply for, but are not limited to parking:
- on campus without displaying a valid parking permit (permits are not valid if outdated, reproduced, copied, defaced or otherwise altered)
- within a parking bay contrary to the sign and permit conditions
- either fully or partially outside a marked bay (i.e. over the line and not wholly within the bay or parking in an area that is not a marked parking bay)
- in any manner that jeopardises the safety of staff, students and visitors, or parking in a manner that damages the UWS grounds or environment.
The Office of State Revenue's State Debt Recovery Office (SDRO) processes penalty notices on behalf of UWS. It also manages a fine enforcement system to collect unpaid fines, including those imposed by courts. It's authority to do this is provided by the Fines Act 1996 (opens in a new window). For more information, please visit the State Debt Recovery Office website (opens in a new window).
Avoiding Parking Fines
To avoid being issued with a parking fine:
- Display a valid parking permit on the lower, driver's side windscreen or dash. If you drive multiple vehicles to campus and forget to swap your annual or half year parking permit over, you should purchase a Pay and Display one day parking permit and display it in place of your annual or half year parking permit. You should also register the registration numbers of both vehicles against the permit - use the Change of Parking Permit Details Form.
- Park in a car park bay that corresponds with your parking permit (i.e. in a yellow car park bay if you have a General Yellow parking permit). For more information on where you're entitled to park, refer to the UWS Parking and Traffic Policy.
