MyVoice Staff Engagement
MyVoice – we’re listening
UWS is passionate about making a difference to the careers and work experience of our staff.
83% of staff took the opportunity to have their say in the inaugural 2012 MyVoice Staff Engagement Survey.
Commitment to the mission and values of UWS emerged as a strong theme with 88% of staff saying they believe in the purpose of UWS.
We're now working on responding to your feedback to make improvements in the areas that are important to you, and make UWS an even better place to work.
What we're doing to respond to your feedback...
UWS is looking to make improvements at both the University-wide level and School/unit level.
As a first step, we held a MyVoice Workshop in December 2012 to discuss ideas for addressing the University-wide areas for improvement. Staff representing a broad cross section of the University provided their input. There were many good ideas and these are outlined in the MyVoice Workshop Discussion Summary (opens in a new window) (PDF, 81Kb) (staff login required)
Some things are already underway to address your feedback about Executive communication with staff, cross unit information sharing and the food and beverage services on campus.
Meet the Executive opportunities
The Executive is now rotating most of its meetings this year through the campuses. This will give staff the opportunity to meet and speak to members of the Executive on an informal basis. The first of these informal meetings were held in March and April. Further sessions will be held in May, June and July. All staff are welcome to attend.
OPC Roadshows
The Office of People and Culture (OPC) will be hosting campus roadshows in May to talk about what OPC does and to answer questions and canvass feedback on services to support staff in their roles.
Food and beverage improvements
Following the MyVoice survey results, uwsconnect conducted follow up surveys and focus groups with staff between September and December 2012.
Based on this feedback uwsconnect has introduced some new food and beverage outlets and made changes to existing outlets and menu options. Uwsconnect is also exploring the option of mobile food trucks to provide a greater variety of choices. To find out more, visit the uwsconnect website.
What's next?
MyVoice Working Groups are now being established to explore and implement ideas for addressing key areas for improvement at the University-wide level. These areas include cross-unit collaboration and information sharing; Executive communication with staff; processes for decision-making, recruitment and selection; support for new staff; career opportunities at UWS and encouraging a staff culture of civility and respect.
Each working group will be sponsored by a member of the UWS Executive and/or a Dean who will provide mentoring and guidance to the group. We will provide further updates on our progress in addressing the University-wide areas for improvement once the working groups are underway. For further information please see the MyVoice Working Groups web page.
What's happening at the School & Unit level?
All Schools and Divisional units have now developed MyVoice Action Plans focusing on key priorities for improvement at the local level. Schools and divisional areas will continue to implement their action plans over the next few months, and Deans and Directors will report on progress to the UWS Executive Staffing Committee in December.
