Summer UNit SEssion Tool
UWS SUNSET (Summer UNit SEssion Tool) provides a template approach to designing units for Summer 1, 2 and 3. Staff can map their unit learning outcomes and major content areas across the term and identify specific activities such as recorded lectures, polling, guest presentations, online tutorials, group work, peer review and so forth that the instructors and students will be involved in, week by week. Self-directed learning activities can also be identified and included in the plan for the unit. These activities can have an hourly allocation which is automatically calculated to determine the number of hours students are engaged in on-campus, online and self-directed learning activities. Assessment tasks can also be captured in the template.
The SUNSET resource includes three working examples of current units (not identified) across three modes of delivery: fully online, intensive on campus and a blend of 80:20. These working examples show variation in design approaches and demonstrate how the templates can be filled to help map unit activities.
This resource is value added to include a template for Autumn/Spring unit design so the approaches staff take in designing for summer session units can also be applied to the longer teaching periods staff are already accustomed to.
The resource is available here as the UWS SUNSET Model Template (ZIP, 1040.54 KB). For further information or assistance, contact designingforlearning@uws.edu.au
