Food Security and Agriculture
Working Group
In order to develop and implement strategies RCE-GWS have implemented a number of working groups to address and create projects around our regional sustainability challenges.
Overview of Working Group
The Food Security and Sustainable Agricultre working group aims to engage and educate the local community and schools on the importance of agriculture in Greater Western Sydney for securing food for our growing population as well as the impacts of wasting food.
One key project is the Love Food Hate Waste program which aims to raise awareness about the issues of
food waste. The project involves engaging the community in cooking workshops, providing them with information and tips on how to reduce their food waste, eat healthily, use local food and save money. The Love Food HateWaste (opens in a new window) program aims to raise awareness about the impact of food waste in NSW and reduce how much 'good' food we waste.
In NSW more than $1,000 of food is thrown away each year in every household. Loving food is about wasting less every day – saving you time and money, making a difference to our environment.
