Candidate Support and Resources

UWS offers a range of support and resources for higher degree research candidates. The Research Higher Degree Candidature Essential Resources Policy describes standard resources available to research candidates. Candidates can also apply for funding to support some aspects of their candidature.

Workshops

The workshops are open and free of charge to any research candidate enrolled at UWS. These workshops are targeted to your needs at particular stages of candidature. You should read the workshop descriptors to select workshops that are best suited to your aims this year.

3MT Workshops

This year the UWS 3MT Finals will be held on Friday 23 August 2013. Workshops will be held to assist HDR students to prepare for 3MT. 

Details of workshop:

In this workshop we will discuss the requirements of the 3MT, watch some previous contestants, talk about design of the slide and presentation and do some practical work.

Please bring along your ideas for your presentation, including what you may have already written for the talk and the slide. Bring your smartphone or iPad if you would like to be filmed.

ACSPRI Training Courses

Bookings for the 2013 ACSPRI Winter Program are now open

Twenty-four five day courses are on offer across three weeks in Sydney and Perth; 24 June - 5 July at University of Technology Sydney and 15 - 19 July at University of Western Australia.

The Australian Consortium for Social and Political Research Inc (ACSPRI) is a not-for-profit organisation that has offered short courses in research methods, predominantly for staff and HDR students at its member institutions, for twenty-seven years. These courses are suitable for a wide range of researchers and cover a host of qualitative and quantitative research and analysis techniques of various levels and include training in a number of research-related software (e.g. SPSS, AMOS, Mplus, Nvivo, Stata, R).

Our organisation is an ACSPRI Member so bookings from staff and students are eligible for considerable discounts. Further early bird discounts are available for bookings that are completed and paid for 8th May, 2013. Up until this day, full time postgraduate students pay only $1 000 per course and other students and staff pay $1 560, compared with the full rate of $3 130.

Mathematical and Statistical Analysis Support

Maths and Stats Consulting provide expert assistance for UWS postgraduate research candidates who wish to use mathematical and statistical techniques in their research.Researchers from all disciplines are welcome to apply.

There are funds available for expenses directly related to your research.
