Research Training Scheme (RTS)

Research Training Scheme (RTS)

Research Training Scheme (RTS) places are funded by the Federal Government. There is no stipend attached to a Research Training Scheme place, although all research candidates are provided with resources to support their project. Fee-paying places are available in all areas of study and some professional doctorates are fee-paying only.

Applications for Research Training Scheme places and scholarships are ranked in two competitive admissions rounds per year.

Applications are now invited for the 2008 mid year round of Research Training Scheme places. The Research Admission and Scholarship Application (PDF, 220Kb) should be submitted by 31 October 2009.

Applicants who are unsuccessful in securing an Research Training Scheme place may be offered a fee-paying place.

It is Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) policy that applicants who have partly completed a research degree, at UWS or elsewhere, may have the previous period of candidature deducted from the maximum time allowed.

Applications for admission into UWS areas of designated research concentration may be given additional points on the Research Training Scheme Ranking Metric 2009 (PDF, 215Kb) used in allocating Scholarships and Research Training Scheme places at UWS.

Scholarships and RTS places at UWS are highly competitive. The Advice and Information Sheet (PDF, 121Kb) contains practical advice about the application process.
