Measures of Achievement

The UWS Research Studies Committee has introduced a structured first year for research students in response to the Federal Government's reduction of the period of funded enrolment.

One of the first year requirements is the Measures of Achievement.

You are asked to discuss this with your principal supervisor or supervisory panel. The aim is to identify goals that would be good for you to achieve early in the candidature.

The Measures of Achievement will be unique for each student and should be achievable within the nominated time frame, be clearly expressed, and should indicate what constitutes a successful completion.

Measures of Achievement may include things such as:

  • mastering a laboratory research technique
  • attending a relevant coursework component such as a research methods course
  • producing written reports including a draft timetable for the project
  • a literature survey
  • other disciplinary requirements

Usually up to four items will be sufficient but please feel free to add additional items on a separate sheet.

Measures of Achievement are a compulsory requirement of enrolment.
