Technology Services for Researchers
The following technology services are available to researchers, and augment the services already available from IT Services (ITS) via the IT Service Desk. These services are primarily to help researchers with storage, computing and collaboration.
For more information about Data Management, including a handy checklist and template plan, visit Data Management and Technology Planning.
As a researcher you can obtain some select services to help you in your work.
- If you need more storage, you can apply for free storage on the Research Shared Drive. For more information read the Research Shared Drive FAQ (PDF, 274.53 KB). Use the Request a Research Shared Drive form (PDF, 179.9 KB).
Australia's Academic and Research Network (AARNet) also have two data storage options for use: Cloudstor (opens in a new window) and Cloudstor+ (opens in a new window). If you do take advantage of Cloudstor+, eResearch is interested to know your experience.
Research Data Storage Infrastructure (RDSI) (opens in a new window) also has free storage. To make an application, contact eResearch and we are happy to assist you.
- If you need more computing resources, you can request a virtual machine. For more information read the UWS virtual machine README (PDF, 95.15 KB). To make your request, simply email the eResearch team.
The National eResearch Collaboration Tools and Resources project (NeCTAR) (opens in a new window) has virtual machines for research use as well.
- If you need to archive and publicise your research data, you can add it to the Research Data Catalogue. Simply fill in a short form where you can notify the UWS Library of your research data.
- If you develop software, you can backup your repository to the Research Data Store. Take advantage of this service by emailing the eResearch team.
