UWS Research Partnerships Program
Closing Date: 7 June 2013 (Round 1) - CLOSED
Results Announced: August 2013
Closing Date: 6 September 2013 (Round 2)
Results Announced: October 2013
The UWS Research Partnerships Program is designed to be a flexible scheme that encourages individuals and groups to submit applications for support of a research project jointly developed and funded with an external partner. Partners suitable for collaboration may be from industry, commerce, and the public and community sectors. International collaboration will be considered. Applications involving Greater Western Sydney (GWS) partners are particularly encouraged.
Research projects must demonstrate a high level of collaboration between the University researchers and eligible partners, plus the potential to develop new links or the significant enhancement of existing links. Innovation will be a central feature of successful applications. The Partnerships Program is designed to encourage partners to explore and promote their research project to the point where support from the ARC Linkage Program or other major external funding programs such as those organised by AusIndustry can be realistically sought. Applicants should articulate more than one possible avenue for further funding and the anticipated timeframe to achieve such funding.
The primary objective of the scheme is the support, on a competitive basis, of quality research projects to be carried out by partnerships showing clear evidence of high research capacity. The Partnerships Program is designed to encourage the development of long–term and strategic relationships between UWS and industry, commerce, and public and community sectors, as well as assist UWS researchers to gain a greater understanding of industry research needs through collaborative research and development projects. It will provide the opportunity for UWS researchers and their partners to bring advanced knowledge and techniques to bear on problems or opportunities in order to realise economic and social benefits for Australia.
Awards will normally be up to $25,000 (in exceptional circumstances up to $35,000 may be provided with a matching amount from the industry partner) and will be tenable for a period of 12 months. Partners must provide matching new cash plus GST. The cash contribution will be invoiced and managed by Office of Research Services through a UWS project account.
Applications are invited from individuals or research teams at the University of Western Sydney and their partners for grants in support of pure and applied research projects. Funds will not be made available for research projects viewed as a normal part of course/curriculum development. Grants will not be awarded to holders of grants from other granting bodies for essentially the same research project, nor will applications that are more in the nature of consultancies be eligible for funding.
There will be two calls for applications each year. However, applications may in exceptional circumstances be submitted out of phase by contacting the Director of Research Services, Mr Gar Jones.
UWS Research Seed Grant Scheme: for early career researchers
Closing Date: 26 July 2013 - CLOSED
Results Announced: September 2013
The UWS Research Seed Grant Scheme (for early career researchers) provides initial funding for the establishment of projects conducted by Early Career Researchers (ECR), supporting individual investigators as well as small research teams. The primary objective of the Scheme is to support, on a competitive basis, quality research projects of modest financial cost that are carried out by Early Career Researchers (ECR) who show clear evidence of high research capacity. Applications are invited from individuals or research teams at the University of Western Sydney for grants in support of pure and applied research projects.
The maximum grant will be $7,500. Research Seed Grants allow an Early Career Researcher (ECR) the opportunity to discover, with reasonable speed and cost, whether a large–scale research project is feasible. Proposals of a speculative or novel kind are particularly welcome but should be accompanied by a research plan that demonstrates theoretical or practical potential.
Generally, funds will not be made available for projects viewed as a normal part of course/curriculum development. Grants will not be awarded to holders of grants from other granting bodies for essentially the same project.
Seed Grant applicants are required to have negotiated the involvement of a research advisor/mentor to assist them in successfully undertaking their research project - should it be funded. Such an advisor/mentor will normally be an experienced UWS researcher who agrees to take on their role in the spirit of collegiality and an expectation that Senior Staff undertake such support as part of their academic activities.
An advisor/mentor will not be engaged in the conduct of the research, nor in any publications arising from the research activity, though the success of the Seed Grant may lead to a further application for funding through which the advisor/mentor may be conceptually involved as a named investigator.
All intending Seed Grant applicants should discuss the matter of an appropriate research advisor/mentor with their School Research Director (or equivalent).
UWS Research Grant Scheme
Closing Date: 27 September 2013
Results Announced: November 2013
The UWS Research Grant Scheme is designed to offer funding to staff, either individual researchers or research teams, who have a twelve month program in mind to promote their research project to the point where support from national competitive grant programs or other major external funding schemes or sources can be realistically sought.
The primary objective of the Scheme is the support, on a competitive basis, of high quality research projects to be carried out by investigators showing clear evidence of high research capacity. It is expected that preliminary or pilot work for such projects has already been undertaken.
This scheme is particularly designed to support projects that demonstrate originality in conception and demonstrate the potential to uncover new knowledge or the potential to provide new insights into and solutions to an important practical problem.
The maximum grant will be $25,000. Applications are invited from individuals or research teams at the University of Western Sydney for grants in support of pure and applied research projects. Generally, funds will not be made available for projects viewed as a normal part of course/curriculum development. Grants will not be awarded to holders of grants from other granting bodies for essentially the same project.
