Adjunct Associate Professor Robert Mellor

Biography

Robert Mellor graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with first class honours in mathematical statistics from the University of Sydney, and received a Masters and PhD in Statistics from Harvard University. He worked for almost twenty years for the Australian Bureau of Statistics, designing sample surveys, developing new methodological approaches in survey design and analysis of survey data, providing consultation assistance in mathematical and statistical methods to a range of commonwealth and state departments, and providing management direction as a senior executive in the New South Wales office. In his twenty years at the University of Western Sydney, Robert headed a number of groups, including the Department of Mathematical Sciences at UWS Macarthur and the School of Quantitative Methods and Mathematical Sciences, following unification of the mathematical and statistics groups across all campuses. He has taught a range of statistics and mathematics units to all undergraduate years, and also to MBA students. Robert has also taught at Harvard University, Australian National University, University of Canberra, Macquarie University and the University of New South Wales. Robert’s research interests cover sample surveys, data analysis and applications of statistics in product innovation, tourism, business ethics, manufacturing strategy and knowledge management.
