Dr Ataur Rahman

Biography

Dr Ataur Rahman has a specialisation in Water Engineering. He obtained his BEng (Civil) from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Masters in Hydrology from National University of Ireland and PhD from Monash University. He worked in Sinclair Knight Merz, CRC for Catchment Hydrology and QUT before joining the University of Western Sydney in 2002. He conducted research in Cornell University (USA) and in The University of Newcastle in 2010 during his sabbatical leave.

Dr Rahman's research interests include hydrologic modelling, catchment simulation, water quality management, and urban water cycle modelling. He has published 114 refereed technical papers and 13 research reports. He received the G.N. Alexander Medal from Engineers Australia. He is heavily involved in the current upgrade of Australian Rainfall and Runoff, and acting as Project Leader for Project 5 Regional flood methods.

Derivation of design rainfalls using GLS regression and region of influence approach, Australian Bureau of Meteorology, $61,000.

Australian Rainfall & Runoff – Project 5 Regional flood methods for Australia, Engineers Australia, $206,000.

Research and development of the 96 hours and 120 hours design rainfall temporal patterns for the Gold Coast region in Queensland, Sinclair Kinght Merz, $8,000.
