Undergraduate

Scholarship applications require a bit of work, so ensure you familiarise yourself with the criteria and requirements and dedicate enough time to complete the application form and obtain all the supporting documents.

It is important to take the application process seriously and to put in the extra effort as this can make all the difference when the university is making its selections.

The personal statement especially requires you to think about your life goals, achievements and ambitions and asks you to present your strengths.

About your UWS Scholarship Offer and how to accept it

UWS will make a Scholarship Offer after your application is assessed as successful. The time taken to assess your application depends on the prerequisites that need to be met.

You must accept your Scholarship Offer by the date on your letter or it will lapse. As soon as you accept your offer you need to ensure that you are enrolled in the appropriate University of Western Sydney undergraduate course.

Your Scholarship Application is assessed

If your scholarship application is successful you will receive an Official Scholarship Offer tenable at the University of Western Sydney.

  • You must accept the scholarship offer by the date stated in the letter. An offer may be withdrawn by UWS after this date so it is important to accept your offer as soon as you can.
  • If you decide not to accept the offer, you must immediately notify the Scholarship Unit explaining your reasons for declining the offer.
  • If you want to defer your offer for one or two semesters (a maximum of up to one year), you should complete the Scholarship Offer Acceptance Form and select the ‘defer’ option.
If your application is unsuccessful

You will receive a letter stating that you have been unsuccessful.

UWS Scholarships (Group A and Group B)

You can apply for most of the UWS Scholarships (Group A and Group B) using the Application form(s) from our website:

Commonwealth and UWS Equity Scholarships

To apply for Commonwealth and Equity Scholarships, you need to use the application form supplied by the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC). Read the UAC booklet for instructions or visit the UAC website to obtain an application form.

UWS Admission and Enrolment

Don’t forget that you also have to apply for admission to the University of Western Sydney through UAC. Obtaining and accepting a UWS Scholarship does not guarantee you an Offer to a course at UWS.

Providing a Statutory Declaration

As part of your scholarship application you must provide a Statutory Declaration verifying your current residential address (check Definitions and Criteria for eligible Greater Western Sydney postcodes; some donor scholarships may be available to residents outside this area). Also, please verify the Important Dates and Guidelines for Competing for each of the Scholarships that are available at UWS.

Please visit the Commonwealth Attorney-General's website to find out more information about providing a Statutory Declaration, including a printable Statutory Declaration form and information on obtaining certification from a Justice of the Peace.

A word on supporting documentation

Where requested, applicants must provide the required certified documentary evidence to support your application. Please note:

  • Please do not send original documents, supply certified copies only.
  • Only send copies of your most current Certificates and/or High School results.
  • Each piece of supporting documentation must be a certified copy. The person certifying the copy must sight the original document then authorise and sign the copy.

Points to consider when preparing your application

  • Get someone such as your teacher or careers adviser to read over your personal statement;
  • Get your applications in by the due date - we will not accept late applications;
  • Don’t underestimate your chance of gaining a scholarship. You’ve got to be in it to win it; and remember
  • New scholarships come up all the time, so it’s worth keeping up to date with the scholarships that you are eligible for. Keep an eye on our website for further opportunities throughout the year.

All scholarship offers are conditional upon enrolment in a relevant course at a UWS campus and the applicant meeting the eligibility requirements of the scholarship.

The Scholarships Office will send letters of offer to successful applicants. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified following the completion of all scholarship offerings. UWS reserves the right to reallocate scholarship offers which are declined or withdrawn from those who do not complete acceptance procedures, or from those who are otherwise confirmed as ineligible.
