UWS Indigenous Scholarship for Achievement


The UWS Indigenous Achievement Scholarship aims to encourage academically gifted Australian Indigenous students who are either commencing or continuing their tertiary education at UWS. 

Scholarship Benefits: $5 000 per year (or part-time equivalent)

Duration: Up to five years (or part-time equivalent)

Course(s): Any UWS undergraduate degree program

Eligibility to apply:

Applicants must:

  • Be Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people who meet the Commonwealth three-tiered criteria for Aboriginality. This requires that an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person is of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; and identifies as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and is accepted as such by the community in which he or she lives or has lived;
  • Have applied through UAC for a UWS undergraduate degree; and
  • Meet the financial hardship/equity criteria.*

OR

  • Be currently enrolled in a full-time or part-time undergraduate degree at UWS; and have maintained a GPA of 4 (pass average) in the previous year; and
  • Applicants who identify as people of Australian Indigenous descent must complete an Indigenous Australian Declaration (PDF, 53Kb),
  • Applicants are welcome to contact the Badanami Centre for Indigenous Education for support and advice at any stage of your application.

Application Process & Selection: Applicants can either apply online or apply using the UWS Indigenous Scholarships Application Form available from the UWS Badanami Centre for Indigenous Education or on the How to Apply webpages.

Selection of this scholarship is based primarily on financial need. Additional factors such as educational disadvantage, membership of a specific equity group and/or significantly adverse personal circumstances may be taken into account where the selection committee must differentiate between equally qualified applicants.

Conditions of the Scholarship: Recipients must remain in full-time or part-time study and maintain a minimum GPA of four (pass average)
