UWS Opportunity Scholarship for commencing and continuing students

Got the ability and the drive, but face an obstacle that puts uni just out of reach? The UWS Opportunity Scholarship aims to assist individuals in the Greater Western Sydney region who face economic, social or other disadvantage which makes university participation very difficult. 

Scholarship Benefits: $5 000 per year  (or part-time equivalent)

Duration: Up to four years full-time (or part-time equivalent)

Course(s): Any UWS undergraduate degree program

Eligibility to apply:

Applicants must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa;
  • Be in receipt of a pension or allowance under the Social Security Act 1991 or Veterans’ Entitlement Act 1986 or Abstudy, or demonstrate financial hardship, by meeting at least one of the UWS defined equity or personal disadvantage criteria*;
  • Currently reside in or completed your HSC within the Greater Western Sydney region (see eligible postcodes): and
  • Demonstrate academic potential through a minimum UAI of 80 or equivalent;

OR

  • Be currently enrolled in a full-time or part-time undergraduate degree at UWS; and
  • Have maintained a GPA of five (credit average) in the previous year.

Application Process & Selection: Applicants should apply directly through the University Admissions Centre (UAC). Application forms are available UAC’s website at: Equity Scholarships

Selection of this scholarship is based primarily on financial need. Additional factors such as educational disadvantage, membership of a specific equity group and/or significantly adverse personal circumstances will be taken into consideration for this scholarship.

Conditions of the Scholarship: Recipients must remain in full-time or part-time study and maintain a minimum GPA of four (pass average).
