UWS Vice-Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship

The UWS Vice-Chancellor’s Leadership Scholarship aims to reward the success and accomplishments of high achieving secondary school students who demonstrate excellence not only in their academic studies, but also in some other aspect of their lives, by offering funding for their further education as well as access to participate in the Aspire Program which optimises their academic and leadership potential.

Scholarship Benefits: $10 000 per year (or part-time equivalent)

Duration: Up to five years full-time (or part-time equivalent)

Course(s): Any UWS undergraduate degree

Eligibility to apply:

Applicants must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa;
  • Have applied through UAC for a place at UWS, nominating a UWS course as one of their first three preferences;
  • Demonstrate a high level of academic achievement through a minimum UAI 90, or equivalent;
  • Provide evidence of leadership and community involvement (e.g. Captain of School, community service, sport, the arts, public speaking, Maths/Science Olympiads, Duke of Edinburgh award, etc); and
  • Currently reside in or have completed their HSC within the Greater Western Sydney region, as defined by UWS (see eligible postcode listing).

Application Process and Selection: Applicants should apply using the Group A – UWS Funded Scholarships Application Form available on the How to Apply webpages.

Applicants must ensure that they complete the personal statement section of the application which requires you to demonstrate your leadership qualities and community involvement.

Selection of this scholarship will be determined on the basis of your UAI result,  personal statement, and interview performance. Short-listed applicants will be required to attend an interview and must ensure your availability to attend.

Conditions of the Scholarship: Recipients must remain in full-time (40 credit points per semester) or part-time (20 credit points per semester) study and maintain a minimum GPA of five (credit average).

Recipients are expected to be available to participate in University events for prospective and current students such as Orientation and Open Day.

Recipients are automatically invited to participate in the Aspire Leadership Program.

Note:

Because particular selection procedures apply for entry to the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) the offer of a place does not apply to this course. Eligible students who have nominated a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery as a first preference, but whose enrolment application is unsuccessful, will be offered a place in the UWS course they nominate as their next preference (ie: Bachelor of Advanced Science) and will receive all benefits of this Scholarship.
