2012 Schools Spectacular - 'Our Time'
The month of November signals the countdown to one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the school calendar, the Schools Spectacular. Described as the world's biggest annual youth variety extravaganza, the Schools Spectacular brings together more than 3,600 NSW public school students of different ages, cultures and backgrounds, and provides them with an opportunity to showcase their talents in a dazzling display of movement, music and colour.
The Schools Spectacular features an impressive 1300-voice choir, 2000 dancers, an 80-piece symphony orchestra, rock, jazz and brass bands, and a host of talented soloists and feature artists ranging from 7-18 years - all woven into one inspiring production.
Students from more than 400 NSW public schools rehearse for months in preparation for the School Spectacular performances which are held over two days and nights. The Schools Spectacular gives audiences an insight into the wealth of talent in public schools, and the dedication, commitment and creativity of the teachers who nurture that talent.
Schools Spectacular has been an annual event since 1984. It has formed the stage debut for many well known performers including Human Nature, Paulini, Nathan Foley (Hi-5), and 2011 Australia’s Got Talent winner Jack Vidgen.
The theme of this year’s Schools Spectacular is aptly named ‘Our Time’, as we can all only begin to imagine the things that may be in store for this year’s audiences.
