SELP (Social Engagement and Leadership Program)
SELP 2012 is now closed. We hope to run the program again next year. Check back here in February 2013.
SELP (Social Engagement and Leadership Program)
SELP is a fantastic social engagement and leadership program open to UWS students.
SELP will give you a chance to build skills that will jump start your global career. Skills like problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills, as well as giving you the opportunity to engage with the community in a fun team environment.
The SELP program is supported through a targeted grant provided by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) and administered by Universities Australia to enhance the student experience.
SELP Orientation and Launch
Be inspired by Todd Sampson as he speaks about leadership qualities and social engagement at the SELP launch.
Todd is the CEO of Leo Burnett, one of Australia’s top creative advertising agencies. He is also the co-creator of the Earth Hour initiative and the breakout star of the hit ABC television show The Gruen Transfer and features regularly on channels Ten’s 7pm Project.
The orientation session will introduce you to what you will be doing over the five week program. You will meet your SELP class colleagues – current students studying at UWS from Australia and countries around the world all sharing the same desire to jumpstart their career for the global workplace.
SELP Workshop 1: Management Skills
Develop your managerial and leadership skills. The workshops will include topics like communication (public speaking, effective writing), business (achievement, team building, business vocabulary) and generic skills (time management, negotiation skills).
SELP Workshop 2: Project Management
Get ready to learn about goal setting, articulating priorities, valuing diversity, focusing time and energy.
SELP Workshop 3: Cross Cultural Understanding and Globalisation
Help shape our future in this global world. Improve your ability to engage and communicate across cultures and value different perspectives. This workshop will focus on concepts of cross-cultural understanding, globalisation and social responsibility and will tie in with a team project.
Team Project
You will be involved in a team project which will focus on participation in community engagement or volunteer programs of at least 8 hours. Each team will consist of three domestic students and three international students.
Program Award Ceremony and Dinner
Time to celebrate the completion of your program! You will also receive a certificate from UWS to recognise your SELP achievement and success.
