Associate Professor Partha Gangopadhyay

Biography

Partha works chiefly in the area of economic theory and its application in the real world. He studied economics as a major and mathematics and politics as minors gaining a First class Honours degree in economics from the Presidency College, Calcutta and an MA in economics from JNU, New Delhi, India. After a brief stint at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, New Delhi Partha came to Australia for doctoral studies in mid 1989 and obtained a PhD in economics from the University of Sydney in 1994. He worked as an associate lecturer at University of Sydney during 1990-1994 and took up a lectureship at Griffith University in 1995 before migrating to UWS as a lecturer in 1996. Since July 1996 Partha has published about 60 refereed publications including 5 research books. His work was published in “A* and A journals” of the ERA Journal List of the Australian Research Council including Urban Studies (A*), Journal of Asian Studies (A*), Theory and Decision (A), Economic Modelling (A) etc. He was appointed as a full and chair professor at the European University of Viadrina, Frankfurt (O), Germany in 2000. He also held visiting professorships at leading North American universities.
