Through Dr Yi-Chen Lan and Dr Colin Sheringham’s initiative, two funding applications prepared by Stephen Waters for the DEEWR Study Overseas Short-term Student Mobility Program have been successful. We have received the full amount requested for both projects, a total of 20 student subsidies valued at $2,000 each (to a total of $40,000) and 2 staff subsidies valued at $1,500 each (to a total of $3,000) therefore the total of student and staff subsidies across both projects is $43,000. Stephen Waters will lead a group of 20 BBC students enrolled in their final year unit 200565 Operations and Logistics in Practice to participate in an international study tour designed to enrich their appreciation of this important field of management. Students will be hosted by two internationally acclaimed universities, Yuan Ze University in Taiwan and Ningbo University in China. Both universities have long standing relationships with UWS. Both institutes have agreed to host students and conduct seminars aimed at enhancing student’s knowledge about the issues, challenges and future trends in operations and logistics management in the local environment. Students will be paired with local students and attend classes presented in English. They will exchange information about their countries, university life, their studies and build bilateral cultural awareness. The tour will substantially improve student’s preparedness for working within different social, political and religious frameworks in a global workforce. This will further enrich students experience and develop their skills in ‘global attitudes, perceptions and economic understanding within and beyond the Greater Western Sydney Region’.
