Biography

Dr Tadjoeddin joined the School of Social Sciences of UWS as a Lecturer in Development Studies in July 2011. Prior to that, he was a Lecturer in Economics at the School of Economics and Finance, UWS. He had visiting research appointments at the Queen Elizabeth House (QEH), University of Oxford and at the Institute of Social Studies (ISS), The Netherlands; was a Technical Advisor on decentralization and conflict at the United   Nations Development Programmes (UNDP) in Indonesia and a Researcher at the UN Support Facility for Indonesian Recovery (UNSFIR-UNDP) and World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF). His areas of research include political economy of conflict, peace and development, inequality, poverty, human development, decentralization and labour market. His publications have appeared in leading journals such as Journal of Development Studies, Journal of Peace Research, Oxford Development Studies, Journal of East Asian Studies, Journal of International Development, Economics of Peace and Security Journal, European Journal of East Asian Studies and Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy.

Awards and Recognition

  • Article selected as the runner up of the Journal of Peace Research (JPR) Article of the Year Award 2007.
  • Awarded the Best Indonesian Young Researcher 2003 Award (in social sciences) by the Indonesian Institute for Sciences (LIPI).
  • Paper on ‘Testing the modernization hypothesis’ was selected as the winner for the sub-category of ‘social, law and political sciences’ at the Innovative Scientific Writing Competition in Paris, 10-11 October 2009. The competition was organized by the French chapter of Indonesian Student Association.
  • Awarded scholarships from the governments of Australia (UWS IPRS), Indonesia (PPA), The Netherlands (STUNED), and the US (Fulbright).
