Bruce Simmons is a University of Western Sydney (USW) research scientist. In a career spanning 30 years Bruce has worked as an analytical chemist, designated NSW government researcher, divisional deputy manager, senior consultant, senior academic leader (Head of School and Dean of Faculty) and, since 2001, UWS academic and research scientist. His expertise includes Water Resources Planning and Management, and Environmental Management Systems. His publication record whilst maintained throughout his career reflects more his periods as a research scientist. Since 1999 Bruce has procured, managed and partnered more than $2m (Australian) in grants and consultancies, and has numerous publications (book chapters, refereed papers, reports and conferences) in these fields. Bruce is supervising four research programs irrigation and environmental and water cycle management. These programs are funded by NSW Councils, the NSW Environmental Trust and the NSW Department of Water and Energy. Other current and recent research programs include community based water cycle management, wetland and groundwater management in island countries and the environmental health impacts associated with animal waste management in four pacific countries. Bruce has collaborated in research with 9 research agencies (including ACIAR, CSIRO), the World health Organisation, AusAID and 15 state and local government agencies.
