Colloquium: Beyond Diversity Rhetoric: Toward a Common Vision for More Inclusive College Campuses Speaker: Sam Museus, University of Denver.

Abstract: In this presentation, Museus will discuss the urgency of adapting institutional cultures and structures to effectively serve increasingly diverse student populations in higher education. He will provide an overview of the types of campus environments that research suggests allow diverse populations to thrive on U.S. college campuses. Finally, Museus will discuss some of the challenges in cultivating these types of culturally relevant and responsive environments, as well as offer ideas regarding how institutional leaders and educators might begin to overcome those barriers and advance efforts to foster systemic transformation and maximize positive outcomes for all students. Biography: Sam Museus research focuses on the racial, cultural, and structural factors that affect the experiences and outcomes of diverse populations in K-12 and higher education.
